LERICI & GOLFO DEI POETI
The gulf of La Spezia is known, as the Poets Gulf as small villages were the favourite destination of English Romantic Poets.Camping River is very close to Lerici with its castle of Etruscan origins and its old villages: Tellaro, S.Terenzo, Fiascherino. The climate is mild throughout the whole year and amidst the green hills of Fiascherino you will find the marvellous setting where D.H. Lawrence and Lord Byron stayed. In Tellaro the sheer rocks protect the long wild and unspoiled beaches called “ spiaggioni” where the access is possible only by the sea.
TO VISIT
The monumental castle of Lerici with its Paleontologic Museum, is unique in Europe. It overlooks the village and it is known as founded by the Etruscans and later a very important port in the Roman time. S.Terenzo Castle is perched on the rocks over the sea , originally it was a modest defensive embattled tower against the pirates incursions. Nowadays is a museum dedicated to the English poet T.B.Shelley.
S. Rocco Tower, is watch tower of Roman origins. Oratorio S.Rocco, of the XII century, was built on a previous "hospital", used to host the pilgrims on road. Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Francesco D'Assisi is of the XII century. The temple still has valuable sacred furniture. Villa Marigola dominates the bay of San Terenzo and the beach of Venere Azzurra. In the past it hosted many famous people now is a congress centre.
GASTRONOMY
We suggest to taste mussels prepared in different ways: fried, filled or in tomato sauce; fish is usually of high quality and particularly tasting such as spaghetti alla lericina.
